Hiring a Seasonal Part-Time Retail Sales Associate
I’m hiring a holiday helper! Are you a self-directed, responsible and friendly person with a passion for good design and quality craftsmanship? Then you might be the perfect person to join our very small but mighty team! This is a part-time seasonal position that will last until the end of December.
Short Wave strives to be Astoria’s destination for thoughtful gifts, slow fashion and handmade goods. The items we carry are designed to bring excitement and delight to everyday life and are crafted to last a lifetime. The ideal candidate will have an interest in Short Wave’s mission and will be able to tell customers the stories behind the products we carry (don’t worry, we’ll train you!).
The Seasonal Retail Sales Associate will be responsible for opening and closing the shop, cashiering, greeting and assisting customers, shipping online orders and keeping the shop clean, organized and beautiful.
The schedule for this position is semi-flexible and will be 1-2 days per week (approx. 8-16 hours per week) depending on your availability. Availability on Monday, Tuesday and/or Wednesday strongly preferred. Must be available to work every week in December.
Short Wave is looking for someone who

- Has retail or customer service experience
Retail Sales Associate responsibilities include
- Being a responsible and reliable Key Holder (open and close the store without supervision)
- Provide excellent customer service
- Keep the store clean and organized
- Restock the shelves with products as they sell
- Handle cash and card transactions through our POS
- Close out the till at the end of every shift and prepare a nightly deposit
- Process customer returns and exchanges following Short Wave’s return policy
- Ship online orders
- Merchandise new products
- All other tasks as assigned
I will train you
- To provide knowledgeable answers to questions about all of our products and brands
- In product merchandising
- How to use all the key functions of the Shopify POS system

Previous Experience
- At least 3 months experience working in a position of trust required (e.g. being a keyholder and/or handling cash, client information or valuable merchandise without direct supervision). Relevant references must be provided.
- At least 3 months customer service experience required
- Retail experience strongly preferred but not required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Comfortable sitting and/or standing for long periods of time
- Comfortable occasionally climbing a 2-step ladder
- Ability to climb 3 steps to access the business location
- Comfortable reaching overhead frequently
