Astoria Hat

I designed this as an homage to the ghost sign in the shop window. Many years before this space was home to Short Wave, it was a typewriter shop called Empire Office Machines. Whenever it is particularly cold outside and there's a crowd in here, the windows get a bit foggy and you can see the ghost of their old sign.

I made some changes, but this design is a lot like their old sign. I even tried to figure out what font they used but could only find a sorta close approximation.

I wanted to design something as a souvenir for visitors, but that was rooted in a little local history that Astorians could appreciate.

The back is embroidered with the Short Wave logo in white.

100% brushed organic cotton with a sliding strap in the back and an antiqued brass buckle for an adjustable fit.

This hat was made start to finish in a unionized sewing factory in New Jersey, where workers have secured healthcare, fair wages, and paid time off through collective bargaining. The quality is top notch. Yay for labor unions!
