These ruled notebooks from Japanese paper company Tsubame are simple yet sophisticated everyday notebooks with a sewn binding and extremely smooth lined paper that is great for any writing media, especially fountain pens.

Tsubame fools paper is smooth and easy to write on, resists feathering and bleed-through and is acid-free. This paper is also absorbent despite its resistance to feathering, which helps inks dry faster.

Tsubame Fools University Notebooks contain their high quality fools paper, which is a term used in Japan to refer to a specific type of high quality, smooth paper suitable for fountain pens. The name comes from a specific size of high quality English paper that was imported into Japan starting in the 1800s, which had a watermark of a jester's hat and was called fool's cap paper. Now the term has fallen out of use in England but is still used widely in the Japanese stationery world.
