Studio Visit with Shift + Wheeler
Most Astoria locals already know and adore Nick and Becky, the owners of Shift + Wheeler, and their helpers Sara and Shannon, but some of you might not know them yet. This amazing team crafts beautiful, durable natural fiber clothing and waxed canvas bags here in downtown Astoria.
I sell a selection of their work here at Short Wave, and they also have their own storefront several blocks away.
We've been small biz buddies since the beginning and have cheered each other on through the ups and downs of the last 5 years. We have a lot in common like our love of unique handmade goods, valuing quality over quantity, thinking clothes should be size inclusive, and appreciating things that are made to last.
Becky is the mastermind behind Shift clothing and designs clothes for all bodies, but especially fat bodies. She offers standard in-stock sizing up to 7XL and also offers customization to ensure that her clothes are accessible to everyone.
Nick is the designer and maker behind Wheeler Bag Co. and makes versatile, durable and stylish waxed canvas and leather bags.Together, they're Shift + Wheeler!

They have a beautiful showroom where they sell their own wares and a curated collection of gifts and host sewing and leather working classes.
They've done some fantastic product collaborations that bring their complimentary skillsets together, like these waxed canvas rain jackets, seen in-progress.
